What this song is about
Big Yawn, Big Stretch starts the way mornings really start: slowly. The first chorus is soft and sleepy, with one enormous yawn and a long stretch, then the band wakes up with everyone else. Arms reach up, up, up, toes wiggle under the blanket, hands cover the eyes and open again for peekaboo, and the curtains go swoosh to let the day in. Sunny or rainy, both feel right, so there is a wave for the sunshine, a wave for the rain, and a cheerful hello for the teddy and the toy train.
The verses walk through the rest of the morning in small, copyable steps: potty or a fresh change, a warm washcloth over cheeks, nose and eyes, one sleeve, two sleeves and socks, then family hugs and breakfast at the table. In the bridge the Dragon wakes up too, blinking slowly, stretching its wings and puffing a tiny white morning cloud. It is a song for babies on a grown-up's lap and for toddlers who like to do every move themselves.
Sung and danced with the Dragon, our mascot who learns new things alongside children.

For grown-ups
Opening the curtains, playing in daylight and keeping nights dark and quiet helps babies learn that day is different from night.
- Check that washing water is warm, not hot, before it touches your child's face.
- At breakfast, sit little ones upright, stay with them, and offer soft finger foods such as banana slices or toast fingers.
- Potty or nappy, every morning is fine: no rush and no shame, just praise for each small step.

Does the dragon breathe fire?
No. This dragon never breathes fire: when it wakes up it puffs a tiny white morning cloud, like your breath on a cold day.

Classic tales on the same theme, retold for reading aloud.
Sleeping Beauty
A fairy nobody remembered to invite curses a newborn princess to die on a spindle. A younger fairy, hiding behind the curtain with her gift still unspent, cannot undo it and argues it down to a hundred years of sleep instead. In Perrault's original there is no kiss at the end. The hundred years is simply up.
The Gingerbread Man
A little old woman bakes a gingerbread man and forgets about the time. He sits up, gets out through a propped-open door, and outruns everybody who chases him: the old woman, the old man, a cow, a horse and a barn full of threshers. Then he reaches a river, and a fox who has been sitting quite still offers him a lift.
