What this song is about
Hello With My Elbow is a good-morning song for circle time. Instead of one wave, children say hello with every part of their body: an elbow bump with a neighbour, a toe tap, a wiggling nose, knocking knees, bouncing eyebrows, popping thumbs. Then with different voices: a whisper, a squeak, a polite dragon "rawr" and a great big hello. It is silly on purpose, which helps shy children join in without having to speak first.
Waving to the left and the right builds body awareness, and the song has a classroom-management trick hidden at the end. The bridge slows right down: sit down criss-cross, hands in your lap, eyes on the circle. By the final chorus everyone is seated and quiet and ready for the next activity, without a grown-up having to ask. It works at home too, as a cheerful way to start the day with siblings or a playdate.
Sung and danced with the Dragon, our mascot who learns new things alongside children.

A little old woman bakes a gingerbread man and forgets about the time. Then he reaches a river, and a fox who has been sitting quite still offers him a lift.
