How we meet them
In the middle, as she is in everything, between a very loud bear and a very small one.
Personality
Practical and observant. She works out what has happened several steps before anybody else says it.
What they want
To get to the bottom of who has been in her house.
How they change
Notices, deduces, and is the first to look at the stairs.
How they speak
In a middling voice, and usually one step ahead of the conversation.
How the story treats them
The story gives her the least attention and she is quietly the most competent of the three.
One surprising thing
In most modern retellings she is Mummy Bear. In Jacobs' version and Southey's before it, the three bears are not a family at all, just three bears who live together.
If they were real today
She would notice the biscuit was gone before anybody mentioned it.
Things they say
- “Somebody has been sitting in my chair.”
Key moments
She looked at the stairs first
While the other two are still talking about the chairs, she has already worked out that whoever it was has not left.
Who they know
Goldilocksneighbour
The bear who spots every single thing she did, and the only one who works out why she did it.
